The house’s location, facing westward across Ipswich Bay and northward up the Gulf of Maine into the distance, makes for extraordinary sunsets and cloud-watching.

In true maritime New England fashion, every day (and on some days, every minute) is different.

Sailboats and working fishing boats from Gloucester Harbor are frequent sights.

The bay is usually tranquil, but Driftwood’s deck is a great vantage point for watching dramatic weather, like this windy day in late autumn.

Driftwood

This airy modern house looks over the estate and across Ipswich Bay. Its unique pyramidal design adds to the wonderfully spacious feeling of the main kitchen/living/dining area, and remote-controlled skylights let in extra light and sea breezes. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors offer a stunning view from inside—or you can enjoy the vista from the deck or one of the bedrooms' small private porches. The house faces west, so the views at sunset are exceptional.

A short path from the house takes you to a granite swimming pier, and both beaches are less than a three-minute's walk away.

Five bedrooms (sleeps up to 10—two rooms with one queen bed each, two rooms with 2 twin beds each, and one room with a bunkbed that accommodates 2 kids). Three full bathrooms. Two fireplaces (one in the main area, one in a bedroom). Washer/dryer. Cable TV, landline, WiFi. The main kitchen/living/dining area and the two master bedrooms are air conditioned; the twin bedrooms and bunkroom are naturally cool. Available year-round.
